High-silicon spheroidal graphite (SG) irons present higher changes of density during the solidification process when compared to normal SG irons. This special behavior is particularly significant in last stages solidification, where expansion may become insufficient compensate contraction austenite and risk microporosity formation increases. The goal this laboratory research was establish correlations between different levels nodule count obtained using five commercial inoculants, cooling rate at end shrinkage porosity propensity. analysis conducted on thermal cups that were sectioned evaluated for microstructure by optical metallography 2D with Image J software quantify size region. It found a count, associated generates lower porosity. SEM study nature nuclei. Complex (MgSiAl)N nitrides as main nucleation sites graphite.
